The first big international Irish Set Dance Weekend after Corona in Germany

Again in the marvelous Redoutensaal of historic bavarian city Erlangen, organised by Andrea Forstner and her family

The last time around 200 dancers from Ireland, UK, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Austria, USA and all over Germany met here in Feb. 2020. So again this year there will be plenty of opportunity to meet, exchange and reunite with old dance friends; see a short description and an earlier article in Set Dancing News:
The workshops will again be led by the world’s most renowned Irish Set Dance Teacher, Pat Murphy. Music for the ceilis will come from three members of the Abbey Ceili Band, one of Ireland’s most popular bands (Ger Murphy – keyboard; Andy O’Connell – fiddle; Hugh Kennedy – accordion).
The theme of the Carnival Ceili this year is “Somewhere over the Rainbow”. If you like, you can dress up to match, but it’s not compulsory in any way; you come to the other ceilis dressed casually as usual. Here are the details:
3 Ceilis:
- Friday, 17 Feb: Welcome Ceili: 8.00 – 11.00 p.m.
- Saturday, 18 Feb: Carnival Ceili: 8.30 – 11.30 p.m.
- Sunday, 19 Feb: Farewell Ceili: 12.30 – 3.30 p.m.
3 workshops:
- Saturday, 18 Feb: 10.00 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. and 2.00 p.m. – 4.30 p.m.
- Sunday, 19 Feb: 10.00 a.m. – 12.00 p.m.
Chill Out:
- Friday + Saturday after the Ceilis: Pub sessions in the “Kulisse”, directly opposite the Redoutensaal.
- Sunday from 6 pm in a restaurant/pub in Erlangen
Fees: (onsite cash payment)
- Complete weekend 90€
- Single bookings possible.
Accommodation:
The A.B. Hotel near the venue offers a number of rooms at the same rates as the last event in 2020. The Altstadthotel Grauer Wolf also offers nice rooms for set dancers. Please book early and refer to the 19th Erlangen Irish Set Dance Weekend.
Many other hotels and a large number of restaurants can be reached quickly in walking distance near the venue.
Meals:
This year, due to a lack of staff, lunch cannot be offered in the pub “Kulisse” on Saturday and Sunday! It is advisable to book in advance at a restaurant or café of your own choice. Within 5 to 10 minutes walking distance you will find a wide range of different locations.
